Throughout 35 years, the firm has worked to create beautiful, yet contextually appropriate architectural work throughout New York and beyond. Either from the smallest cabin, to large penthouses, we strive to use architecture as a connector to nature, communities, landscape and people.

We emphasize the importance of site context, edited forms and spaces, resolved detailing, and an overall sense of comfort and warmth.  Our goal has been to design functional and unique places to supportive and inspire those who live and work there.

At Samuels and Steelman, we are committed to involving our clients in the entire process. Beginning with our analysis of the site's design potential, we investigate historical, regulatory, and ephemeral context to begin the design process. By close discussions with our clients, we hone a master design concept by discovering how our clients live and work.

As our main communication tool is drawings, they are used to explore broad issues, specific opportunities, and discussion tools to resolve the overall design.  As we develop construction drawings and specifications, these documents include the technical, structural and detail information necessary to successfully bid, permit and construct each project.

Founded in 1986 by Nancy Steelman and Tom Samuels, the firm has created some of the most iconic buildings on the North Fork, such as Pellegrini and Bedell Wineries.

Recently their daughter, Kate Samuels, has taken over the management of the practice and its day-to-day operations. Kate earned a Bachelor of Architecture at the University of Southern California and a Master of Urban Design and Architecture at Columbia University. She is a licensed architect, who has worked extensively in Los Angeles, New York and the North Fork.
